Composition:
Each capsule contains:
Ampicillin Trihydrate BP equivalent to Ampicillin……………… 500mg


Indications:
Ampicillin is an indicated for the treatment of a wide range of bacterial infections caused by ampicillin-sensitive organisms. Such indications include infections of the upper and lower respiratory tract including bronchitis and pneumonia, Genito-urinary tract and the gastro-intestinal tract, gynecological infections, septicemia, peritonitis, endocarditis, meningitis and enteric fever. Specific indications include ear, nose and throat infections, soft tissue infections and gonorrhea.


Dosage:
•  For oral administration only. Ampicillin should be given a half to one hour before meals.
•  Adult: 1-2 capsules every 6 hours.
•  Children under 10 years: 1 capsule every 6 hours.
•  Urinary tract infections: Adult: 1 capsule every 8 hours. (Or according to physician).


Cautions:
•  Prolonged use of anti-infective may occasionally result in the development of super-infection due to organisms resistant to that anti-infective e.g. Candida or Pseudomonas.
•  Before initiating therapy with ampicillin, careful inquiry should be made concerning previous hypersensitivity reactions to beta-lactam antibiotics.
•  Ampicillin may reduce the efficacy of oral contraceptives and patients should be warned accordingly.


Contradictions:
• Penicillin hypersensitivity.


Adverse Effects:
•  Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea; rashes (discontinue treatment); antibiotic – associated colitis.


Dosage form: Red-Black capsule.


Expiry date: 3 years after date of manufacture.


Packaging:
•  10 capsules per blister,10 blisters per box.


Storage:
•  Do not store above 30°C. Protect from sunlight and moisture.
•  Keep out of reach of children.
